About Sam Stewart
Custom Homes
We build homes that last for generations to come. Our incredibly high standards in both construction and customer service promise
superior quality and impeccable workmanship.
We care about the environment. That’s why we build energy-efficient, high-performance homes that reduce energy costs and lessen
the impact of construction.
We believe a successful project is based on clear communication and accountability. We take a highly collaborative, transparent approach to every project and own the result.

Meet the Team

President
Sam Stewart
From his first fort when he was 12 years old, Sam was born to build. After growing up in Richardson and Honolulu, Sam attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1993 with a degree in Civil Engineering with specialties in Structure and Soil Mechanics. Upon graduation, he took his first job with Bury Pittman as an engineer designing and managing projects such as Central Market, The Heart Hospital, and Covert Auto Dealerships.
After two years, Sam left to pursue custom home building and joined Brian Bailey Custom Homes where he learned estimating, purchasing and built relationships with top Austin trades. In 1995, upon the encouragement of Brian, Sam formed Sam Stewart Custom Homes. Inc. Over the last 28 years, Sam has built some of the finest homes all over Austin and the Hill Country. His passion for the process has led to numerous accolades but the accolades that mean the most are those of his homeowners and the referrals they send.
Sam enjoys calling Austin home with his wife, Jennie, and their three adult children while spending quality time with family and friends at their ranch in Fredericksburg.

Superintendent
Sumner Sagebiel
Sumner was born in Fredericksburg and grew up in Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science specializing in Architecture and Construction Technology. He has worked with Sam for over 23 years. Sumner is an integral part of the building process and oversees daily job site operations.
Sumner’s roots run deep in Fredericksburg. The Sagebiels were one of the original German families who immigrated to Fredericksburg, where many still reside today. Sumner lives in Austin with his wife, Ashely, and their four children.

She runs the office, coordinates unparalleled customer service to our homeowners, and helps nurture relationships with our suppliers and subcontractors. Caroline and her husband, Andrew, have two children who enjoy sports and traveling.
Our Process

Preconstruction
Design
Our pre-construction process begins with listening to your goals and vision for your new home. If requested, we can help you find the perfect architect or interior designer to partner with us during the construction process. We provide a customized experience that fits each client’s specific needs.
Design and Construction Estimate
One of Sam's strengths is developing an honest and transparent estimate that fits your budget. Once your construction plans are in motion, we collaborate with our trades to develop a cost-effective and realistic plan to build you a beautiful home.
